Thank You Veterans, Here and Gone

I remember.

I remember that you stood up and fought. I remember that you were often shivering with cold or sweltering in heat. I remember that you left your families, your friends and your homes.

I remember that you stood for what you believed in, whether it was the circumstances of the war you fought, the country you defended or simply your own honor.

I remember that the politics of it don’t really matter when you have guns pointed in your direction, or when you take the life of someone you didn’t know.

I remember when you liberated the oppressed and gave them hope for a better life.

I remember when you died, and I remember when you came home.

Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough for all that you’ve sacrificed.

But I can remember. And not just today.
